How can I make a success of my life? Why am I here? What are my goals? We ask ourselves these questions often, and yet we never have the right answers. What if the answer was philosophical?

Success in life has been instilled in us since our earliest childhood.

Success means many things to each and every one of us. More often than not, it's a word that puts pressure on us. From the moment we are born, we are constantly encouraged by our parents, teachers and loved ones to succeed in life. So, unfortunately, success is a goal that has been imposed on us since childhood.

Failure is the opposite of success. And since we're all programmed from childhood to want to succeed, failure is perceived very negatively and as something to be avoided at all costs.

However, we have forgotten that it took us over 2,000 attempts before we were able to walk. If we had considered the first fall a failure, we still wouldn't be able to walk today.

So the first thing is to change our view of failure and realize that it's a necessary phase. I usually tell everyone I know that :

"Failure is one of the unavoidable steps to success."

I'd even go so far as to say that failure is a necessary learning process, and that there can be no success without failure.

I still remember my only mistake on my first exam as a schoolboy. It was a misspelling of the word "corps", which I wrote without an "s". Today, it's perhaps the only word I've ever misspelled in my entire life. That mistake, and the fact that it was communicated to me, has stayed with me for the rest of my life.

Let's say you're about to undergo surgery. Your surgeon was at the top of his class and scored top marks in his final exam. Does this reassure you?

If this situation were to concern me, I wouldn't be very reassured. It's a safe bet that he never got any feedback on his examination and never received a copy of it. We can legitimately wonder whether our surgeon knows what he did wrong or not. Maybe he thinks he's done everything right, when he's almost certainly missed something. This is a dangerous perception. He may have assimilated an error to a truth, which he risks reproducing on his patients. Is this what success is all about?

So how do you make a success of your life?

What does success mean to you? What are the ingredients for success?

Is it social, family, professional, sentimental or personal success?

This is how I personally see success:

We can only consider personal success in terms of the level of happiness experienced by the majority of people throughout their days. This level of happiness requires ingredients such as :

  • A love of life and the little things in everyday life;
  • Harmony in relationships;
  • Emotional and psychological health;
  • Peace of mind;
  • And above all, a high energy that allows us to direct our lives where we want.

Without this energy, emotions overflow, go off in all directions and escape us. Without good emotions, we'll make bad decisions and be at odds with ourselves, with others and with our environment.

I'd like to suggest this little inner introspection. Take a moment for yourself by isolating yourself from the world and the elements of life and :

  • Think back over the past month, and ask yourself what your successes have been.
  • Identify them, be proud of your successes and grateful for having achieved them.
  • Then think back to what you've considered your "failures" over the past month, and ask yourself what you've learned from them.
  • Think about what you can do to stop repeating these patterns.
  • And immerse yourself in this new You who has understood, learned and changed.

After this reflection, how do you view these events? Perhaps they've already slipped into the success category... You're this close to making a success of your life.

By doing this, everything will make more sense to you.
