But what is a bineural sound?
The term binaural means "relating to both ears", meaning that the aim of binaural sounds is to listen to sounds in both ears at different frequencies.
The hypothesis of binaural sounds is that the frequency produced by the brain (e.g. 4Hz, when two frequencies of 400 Hz and 404 Hz are heard). This would tend to propagate throughout the brain, causing brainwaves in both hemispheres to synchronize with that frequency.
A 2010 study showed that patients in the group treated with binaural sounds consumed less fentanyl (a powerful analgesic). They also experienced less pain one hour and one day after surgery, and were discharged earlier than patients in the placebo group.
